Best Buddies is an international non-profit dedicated to creating opportunities for one-to-one friendships, integrated employment, leadership development, inclusive living, and family support for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). Best Living locations are near college campuses, with 12 programs in operation across the U.S. Their Georgia chapter recently started an inclusive living program near Georgia Tech in the Midtown area of Atlanta. There are four units within a large student-oriented apartment complex.  Each unit houses 4 residents (with and without IDD), each with their own bedroom and bathroom. Rentals are priced at market rates, though some “scholarships” are available. The complex offers an array of amenities, including a sky terrace, rooftop pool, billiards, and a fitness center. There is one on-site residential manager. Residents must be 18 or older and be able to eat, bathe, dress, and groom independently. Additionally, residents must have meaningful and consistent daily activity (i.e. full or part-time work, school, volunteering).
