A silent crisis in Georgia

Over 40,000 Georgians with disabilities face a housing crisis.

People with disabilities should have the opportunity to live in the community, on their own terms. Help Better Living Together make it happen.
LUKE'S STORY
"My dream is to live independently."
Luke is one of 250,000 Georgians living with a developmental disability. Like many adults with IDD, he dreams of living independently in the community—but affordable, inclusive housing is extremely limited. As a result, many must remain with aging parents or move into disability-only group homes. His dream shouldn’t be this hard to reach.
BETTER LIVING TOGETHER

Building a future where everyone has a home

Better Living Together (BLT) was founded in 2016 to expand housing opportunities for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) in Georgia. Each year, more than 3,200 Georgians with IDD leave high school hoping for independent lives, yet most end up isolated in segregated settings due to a lack of affordable, accessible options. BLT works alongside families and community partners to change that, and has become Georgia's leading advocate addressing the housing crisis for adults with IDD.

At the heart of BLT's work is a community of 800 members who previously lacked a shared organizing structure around inclusive housing. This includes people with disabilities, families, caregivers, professionals, and allies. Through events, meetings, a newsletter, and networking, BLT keeps members connected and engaged in the statewide push for change. This year, BLT launched the Georgia Inclusive Housing Coalition (GIHC), a quarterly convening focused on sharing resources, coordinating strategies, and advancing initiatives that expand housing access for people with disabilities across Georgia.
